🧑‍⚖️Sam Altman reasserts control of OpenAI, returns to Board of Directors

What happened: Sam Altman has returned to the Board of Directors for OpenAI, thus reasserting his position as the defacto leader of the company. He is joined by three new faces joining the board.

Altman’s Return: 

• Sam Altman will return, as CEO, to the Board of Directors.

• His return comes after an internal investigation by OpenAI about his initial removal.

• OpenAI’s own investigation found they did nothing wrong (haha).

• OpenAI has stated Sam and Greg were “unanimously agreed” to be the right leaders for OpenAI.

• OpenAI has “strengthened their Conflict of Interest policy” and created a whistleblower hotline.

The new board members: 

• Dr. Sue Desmond-Hellmann, former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation;

• Nicole Seligman, former EVP and global general counsel of Sony; and

• Fidji Simo, CEO and chair of Instacart.

• All of the board members have ties to large corporations, adding to some concerns over the nonprofit nature of OpenAI.

Why it matters: Things are fishy (and dramatic) at OpenAI. The new changes sound encouraging until you realize OpenAI is just policing themselves. Time will tell if external reviews of the company shed any light on matters.

AI can predict the future as well as humans. A new study shows that AI can predict future social, geopolitical, and even financial events about as well as any group of experts. The best results came from combining the expert’s predictions with the AI’s. We’re rapidly approaching a point where AI will predict or run entire systems of society. Can we finally predict the stock market? (No.)

A new family of Language Models have been developed by Yi. The model supposedly matches GPT-3.5’s performance. The new model shows how Large Language Models (LLMs) are becoming increasingly powerful and versatile. We may be using this Language Model in a future AI someday.

News Roundup (1 minute)

🎭Weekly Roundup: Corporate Espionage and OpenAI Drama 

The Weekly Breakdown:

• Stability AI was accused of attempting to steal data from their competitor, Midjourney.  

• An ex-Google engineer was arrested by the FBI for stealing Google’s AI technology information for competing Chinese companies.

• Elon Musk is suing OpenAI for betraying their nonprofit status and working closely with Microsoft.

• Musk’s lawsuit also mentions Q*, OpenAI’s rumored AGI that could “threaten humanity”.

• Two new AI models on the same level as GPT-4 have released.

• Claude 3 Opus has an IQ surpassing GPT-4 in most aspects.

• Inflection-2.5 has a higher emotional intelligence, and is more natural to have conversations with.

Future of AI (2 minutes)

🎮A peak into the AI-powered future of game development

What happened: Charmed is an AI powered 3D mesh builder. While Charmed is just one of many tools, it highlights the incoming AI revolution for 3D game development. Everything from animations to 3D models will be made with AI.

How development may change: 

• 3D models can be made in their entirety from AI. Everything from the mesh and assets, to the textures. Many of the 3D pipelines are still a work in progress for now.

• 2D assets and pictures can be made with AI image generators. We already see this now with a number of games (some games don’t pull this off well though).  

• Animations developed by AI will reduce the need for key-framing and motion-capturing. Not only does this help make development faster, but it enables smaller studios to create higher quality animations without massive budgets.

• Tedious tasks will be handled by AI, such as rigging and texturing. This will allow 3D artists and animators to create more visually engaging scenes quicker and easier.

Why this matters: Many of these changes are already happening or are in development. The industry strikes a bold reminder of how many of us will need new AI-focused skills.

🧠SEO prompt guide 

If you don’t have someone dedicated to working on SEO for you it can be difficult to brainstorm SEO topic ideas. This GPT prompt will give you a head start. Copy and paste it into ChatGPT (and other AI’s if you want to experiment).

Here’s the prompt:

“Using WebPilot, create an outline for an article that will be 2,000 words on the keyword “Best SEO Prompts” based on the top 10 results from Google. Include every relevant heading possible. Keep the keyword density of the headings high. For each section of the outline, include the word count. Include FAQs section in the outline too, based on people also ask section from Google for the keyword. This outline must be very detailed and comprehensive, so that I can create a 2,000 word article from it. Generate a long list of LSI and NLP keywords related to my keyword. Also include any other words related to the keyword. Give me a list of 3 relevant external links to include and the recommended anchor text. Make sure they’re not competing articles. Split the outline into part 1 and part 2.”

Notice how the prompt is specific. The word count and number of search results to pull from are numbered out. GPT is told how to organize the information. This is how you prompt. Be specific.
