Microsoft really wants to own AI. Among all the companies investing in AI, Microsoft has spent the most. But perhaps relying on AI isnât too smart⊠when it creates viral fake news like Grok did. Oh boy. Nobodyâs gonna know what to believe.

Microsoft opens a new AI team.
Grok started fake news headlines.

đMicrosoft opens London AI team with talent from Anthropic

What happened: Microsoft is setting up a new AI hub in London using the staff poached from Anthropic. The move joins Microsoft with Googleâs Deepmind in the battle for Londonâs AI talent.
The details:
Microsoft announced a new London based consumer AI division led by AI scientist Jordan Hoffmann, formerly of Inflection AI.
The London team will focus on developing new language models and AI tools.
Other staff includes Inflectionâs cofounder Mustafa Suleyman.
Microsoft plans to hire more AI talent in London to work on language models and AI tools.
Microsoft has invested ÂŁ2.5 billion ($3.15 billion) in the U.K. to boost AI developments.
The U.K. is a hotspot for AI research, setting the stage for a talent war between Microsoft and Google's DeepMind.
Why it matters: London is about to become AI central for big tech companies. Weâll have to see what comes out of this, but Microsoft isnât playing around. These are multi-billion dollar investments which were made quickly. Something big is bound to come from this.

Annihilate these bastards.
MIT researchers are using AI to fight sleeper bacteria. The research aims to create antibiotics which can fight dormant bacteria, a major obstacle in the world of antibiotics. Some of AIâs uses here are high-throughput screening and identifying semapimod. I donât think I need to state why itâs good for AI to help with medical breakthroughs.
Star Wars at Disneyland has freely walking robots. The robots, named âBD-X droidsâ are controlled remotely by employees. The cute little droids use some of the recent tech breakthroughs in robotics to walk on terrain without falling. How long until robot tech gives us household walking robots and toys?
Tesla is facing a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of Walter Huang, an Apple engineer killed in 2018 when his Model X crashed while using Autopilot. Ironic considering Teslaâs recent plans to create self driving Robo-taxis that have no human drivers, steering wheels, or pedals. How safe do you think the new taxis will be? Worth noting previous cases have favored Tesla in this regard.

đ€ŠGrok starts sensational fake news story

Basically all of the blue checkmarks on X.
What happened: So you know how Iâve been warning that AI could create fake news and weâd never know whatâs real? Well it happened recently. Grok reported a fake news story stating, âIran Strikes Tel Aviv with Heavy Missiles.â Nothing like pretending WW3 just started to get the fires going, right?
The details:
X featured a fake news story created by Grok about Iran attacking Israel. You know, WW3.
Before this, Israel had attacked Iranâs embassy in Syria, so people thought retaliation was possible.
Musk has removed human editors from X, relying on AI for news trends. This was bound to happen.
The fake news appeared on X's new Explore page, seen by millions.
The spread of fake news began with verified accounts posting the false information. An old fashioned game of telephone.
Why it matters: This will get worse as more news outlets rely on AI for fact checking and content creation, as well as the integration of AI images and videos. How long until an AI generated video of a bombing sparks outrage?
This also shows you still need to fact check what the AI gives you. Legal teams are currently using AI to read through legal documents. What happens when the AI is outright wrong?

đ€Llama 3 update is coming next month

What happened: Meta will release Llama 3, their latest AI Language Model, next month. Nick Clegg and the team spilled the beans in London, promising this new AI will power up Meta's apps with smarter, more versatile brains.
The details:
Meta announced Llama 3's release is aimed for next month.
A smaller version of the update is rumored to arrive next week.
The move is part of Metaâs attempts to compete with OpenAI.
Llama 3 is designed to handle a broader array of queries, including controversial topics.
It's expected to be a mega brain with about 140 billion parameters, doubling Llama 2's size.
Llama 3 and its family are open source, so youâll see developers releasing lots of third party applications.
Meta is focusing on text based AI. Image based is on the back-burner.
Why this matters: This is huge for AI developers. Llama 2 became less used as other AI platforms soared past it, so this will take back some market share. And open source is always a good thing for AI. Weâre going to see a lot of third party apps from this. However GPT-5 may release this year, which will probably leapfrog back in front of Llama yet again. I canât help but feel other AI platforms are still playing catch up.

đ§Create AI generated Music
Suno AI is one of the most impressive pieces of tech Iâve seen from AI. With a simple prompt, you can create AI generated songs that sound like the real thing.
Go here to listen to some songs and see what itâs capable of.
Go here to start.
Start by signing in or creating an account. You can start with a free account and make a few songs (or listen to a bunch).
Click âCreateâ. Type in a simple prompt to describe your song (god of heavy metal shreds guitar). Make sure you are using the latest version.

Donât judge my tastes. Theyâre awesome.
Give your new jam a listen. Itâll probably blow your socks off (itâs incredibly impressive) even if you donât like the song.
This is where it gets interesting.
Click the âCustom Modeâ switch.

This is where you can alter the song to your liking. Want the singer to sound a certain way or use certain lyrics? This is how you do it.
First off you can create instrumental music with no lyrics. Pretty good for videos, movies, and tv shows.

Stop judging đ
Here you can edit the style of music and the lyrics for the song.
Make anything ridiculous you want.
Or be serious if you want to be a party pooper.

This song is hilarious đ€Ł
You can save the songs and even download them.
Consider the paid options if you want to make more music per day.
Suno plans to add more options over time.
