ALSO: Drake uses AI to raise 2Pac from the dead šŸ’€

Estimated Read Time: 5 minutes

Meta just rocked the AI world with Llama 3’s initial launch, paving a way for new third party apps and tools to compete with bigger companies. And Drake is… raising the dead? Yeah, he used AI to bring 2Pac back to life. And nurses and doctors are having a field day as AI may someday threaten their jobs.

At least there’s some happy news, right?

  • šŸ¦™ Llama 3 is out and already on Facebook/Instagram.

  • 🧟 Drake uses AI to raise 2Pac from the dead.

  • ā›‘ļø Nurses are freaking out over AI stealing their jobs for cheap.

🧠Meta releases Llama 3

Llama is here for other AI model’s blood…

What happened: Meta has released their open source AI model, Llama 3. And they’ve added Llama powered AI search bars into Facebook and Instagram. Oh and guess what? You can’t turn them off. Yay!

The details:

  • Meta released two versions of Llama 3; 8B and 70B. The rest of the model is coming later at an unspecified date.

  • Like their names suggest, 8B contains 8 billions parameters, while 70B contains 70 billion parameters.

  • The models are more ā€œsteerableā€ and are less likely to refuse to answer questions (I bet they won’t answer political questions thoughšŸ‘€).

  • Meta claims Llama 3 ranks among the best open AI models currently available. It’s a huge leap from Llama 2 and a boost for open source AI models.

  • Llama 3 defeats other open source AI models in tests, such as Mistral 7B and Google’s Gemma 7B.

  • They even claim it beats Gemini 1.5 Pro.

  • Facebook and Instagram now have Llama 3-powered AI search bars, which you cannot turn off (supposedly).

  • There’s also a new suite of security features to protect Llama 3 from hacking, such as CyberSecEval and LlamaGuard.

Why it matters: I’ll keep saying this: you want open source AI. It gives more control to the general public and less to a handful of big corporations. Llama 3 is a massive upgrade for open source AI. And its integration into social media is a landmark moment in how we use AI in our daily lives.

🤬 Meta is censoring their AI’s election answers in India. Who doesn’t love censorship? In order to avoid embarrassing political hallucinations (and regulation), Meta is blocking their newly introduced AI feature from answering political questions in India. Expect more countries to follow suite.

😬 LA is using AI to predict homelessness. The city is using data and AI analysis to predict housing insecurity and infer timely interventions. Basically, they’re using AI to analyze data and create solutions. This could be an outstanding solution long term for many issues cities face, but I doubt it’ll somehow save LA. That place is just doomed.

šŸ¤‘ DeepMind CEO says Google is set to spend $100B on AI over the next five years. Just another example of how absurdly expensive AI really is, which is why companies like Google and Microsoft are spending so much to keep their monopoly.

šŸŽ¶Drake uses an AI 2Pac to diss Kendrick Lamar

The latest Necromancer.

What happened: So much for being against AI music. I guess Drake doesn’t mind AI copying someone’s voice and likeness so long as he’s doing it, right? Well, Drake just used Tupac’s voice (using AI) in his newest song, ā€œTaylor Made Freestyleā€.

The details:

  • AI was used to replicate Tupac and Snoop Dog’s voices in the song.

  • The song was part of a (probably made up) diss track/beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

  • Get this straight; one of the biggest artists in the world is using AI music. This is setting a precedent.

  • A while ago fans debated if ā€œPush Upsā€, his previous diss song, was AI generated.

  • Drake has previously taken down AI imitations of his own music.

  • Suno and Udio have shaken the music industry, inciting the music industry to write a letter about AI music.

Why it matters: I don’t think it’s a good idea to resurrect the dead and make them do and say things they… didn’t do or say. It’s not like the actual dead person can give consent (family consent doesn’t matter, the real person is dead). Meanwhile Drake is so against anyone using AI to copy him. But if AI is making these tracks for them… then why couldn’t AI just replace music celebrities entirely?

This just set the stage for every artist to use AI in their works. Eventually we might see an AI generated Michael Jackson singing and dancing in a new music video, or whatever else you can imagine. I don’t look forward to this future. But there’s no beating it.

If you can’t beat them… join them (I guess).

ā›‘ļøAI Nurses are coming… and real nurses hate it

Please don’t have a creepy uncanny face talking to me.

What happened: Nvidia recently announced AI nurses that will cost $9 an hour and outperform real nurses. And while this is a pretty obvious direction for anyone who uses AI, real nurses and doctors aren’t happy about it.

The details:

  • The video here is their demo for the future of AI in healthcare.

  • The basic use is an AI agent with medical information and access to healthcare records who communicates with the user. Basically a chatbot with a medical database (simplifying).

  • NVIDIA claims these AI agents can handle routine administrative and patient monitoring tasks with greater precision than human staff.

  • A main selling point is the lower operational cost for these AI agents at $9 per hour compared to the higher costs of physical nurses.

  • Doctors and nurses on social media have gone into a frenzy, most denying AI will ever replace them or decrease their pay.

  • This reminds me of when software engineers learned about Devin.

Why this matters: To be completely honest… this could be a good thing. Many doctors and nurses do their jobs passionately, while others do not. Some people cannot afford healthcare. Some countries have time limits for how long a doctor is allowed to see a patent (can literally be less than 15 minutes). An AI doctor/nurse can’t replace the real thing because there’s a lot of physical work involved here… but it sure can help with a lot of the trivial work.

This is all about the execution. An AI doctor/nurse MUST work properly at all times. No misdiagnosing without a real checkup, no prescribing lethal drugs, or not managing the quantity right. There can’t be any hallucinating.

And I don’t think AI is there yet.

(Btw AI is already used to help hospitals figure out the order they will take patents.)

šŸ§‘ā€āš•ļø The future of doctors?

Ok, future robo-doctors need to NOT look like a skull.

The evil red eyes really sell it…

Robots would be wonderful assistants for any job.

He looks so innocent.
